Community Appreciation

  • On The Charitable Contributions section of the Community page, we discuss the results of our Golf Tournament and other fund raising events.  Organizations we have supported are listed and described in detail.  We proudly share feedback received from our sponsors and recipients of our donations.  We had continued our charitable outreach in the face of covid restrictions that hade curtailed some events.
  • The Men’s Club created the Prostate Cancer Committee in September 2022.  Other than fund raising, the most important committee function is the Prostate Cancer Support Group that  meets monthly.  The group gathers together for support and to review diagnosis, treatment options and pioneering research.  Join us the first Tuesday of the month at 7 pm in the aerobics room.

2024 programs

January began when local expert John Katerba related the history of Monroe Township.  In February we enjoyed Motown, Doo-Wop and Rock sounds from Jerry Spathis.  Kicking off spring, we heard how Jim Bouton changed the popular outlook about baseball players.  April’s annual breakfast was accompanied by the life, time and sounds of Simon and Garfinkel.  In May we heard about the romance and tribulations of the American cowboy. Our own Trivia host, Roy Cohen, challenged our intellect at our June sub supper.  In July, we learned about the legends who played at Harlem’s historic Apollo theatre.  August was a busy month when our annual golf tournament, with 80 players, raised thousands for local charities and the annual trip to a Yankee/Met farm team game in Bridgewater.  Another tradition led to 50+ members visiting Freehold Raceway for lunch and gaming in September.  The Jersey Devil folklore, scary to all NJ residents, climaxed September.  The annual  ‘Octoberfeast’ BYOB celebration was accompanied by clips from comedic legends.  In December we will hold the annual holiday dinner and be entertained by a Don Rickles presentation.

2023 programs

January started with professional football player, Jerremy Zuttah,  whose mother lives in Stonebridge.  We learned about the rigors and rewards of a star lineman.   February followed with the history of RCA labs, a pioneer in consumer electronics.  At that time, electronics was a USA industry. Memories of the Dodgers at Ebbets Field, were recalled in March.  For April’s laugh-out-loud breakfast, remembered comedians and TV comedy shows of 1970-1990.  Honest Abe’s  greatness, empathy and humor was related in May.  June entertainment saw a hypnotist put several volunteers in his power to everyone’s joy.  Trivia host, Roy Cohen stretched our intellect in July. The August annual golf tournament, with 80 players, raised thousands for local charities.  August also saw the annual trip to a Yankee/Met farm team game in Bridgewater.  Another tradition led to 50+ members visiting Freehold Raceway for lunch and gaming in September.  In September, a correspondent recalled his trips to the Afghanistan war theater.   The ‘Octoberfeast’ BYOB celebration was accompanied by an evening of Billy Crystal’s uproarious humor.  November’s program featured the impact of SiriusXM on radio broadcasting.  The year concluded with our annual holiday party and music legends who performed in Manhattan’s historic Brill Building.

Appeal to Club Members (Selected Passages – from the President’) Still Applies

During the initial two years of Covid, your Men’s Club Board ensured the continued scheduling of events, overcoming the inability to meet in person. Each month we presented Zoom sessions covering sports personalities, trivia, comedians, music and U.S. historians. When restrictions were lifted we resumed our in-person meetings and arranged outings …………………

We upheld our important charitable mission with food donations for those affected by the pandemic and donations to other charities through our fundraising and our golf outing. We updated our Bylaws in 2020 and 2022. ……..We have been a very busy and productive club both during and after the pandemic.

But none of this occurred without the dedicated effort of volunteers on your Men’s Club Executive Board and its various committees………. a willing group of volunteers to deliver these benefits to you, to Stonebridge and to the community at large. ……………………… serving on our board does not require a lot of effort. Working together as a team, we enjoy the benefit of sharing our own personal experiences for the benefit of the club. Volunteers also get the satisfaction of seeing ……. our fellow members laughing at a comedian and having …………, the faces of and gratitude from the recipients of our charitable contributions

I have called for volunteers at numerous times in the past: ……………….. Without new volunteers at this critical juncture, the social, entertainment and charitable functions of the Men’s Club will be impaired. …………PLEASE volunteer, bring new ideas, and serve on our Board or a committee to help the Stonebridge Men’s Club excel in our active community
