This page displays timely Men’s Club notices covering important issues, events, news and governance.  The President’s bi-monthly articles, as published in the Stonebridge Exchange, are repeated.

Community Appreciation

  • On The Charitable Contributions section of the Community page, we discuss the results of our Golf Tournament and Calendar fund raising events.  Organizations we have supported are listed and described in detail.  We proudly share feedback received from our sponsors and recipients of our donations.  We continued our charitable outreach in the face of covid restrictions that have curtailed some events.
  • The Men’s Club created the Prostate Cancer Committee in September 2022.  Other than fund raising, the most important committee function is the Prostate Cancer Support Group that  meets monthly.  The group gathers together for support and to review diagnosis and treatment options.  The committee’s kickoff was a presentation by the head of oncology at St Peters Hospital.  Join us the first Tuesday of the month at 7 pm in the aerobics room.

Club Announcements

Abbreviated Appeal to Club Members (Selected Passages – from the President’)

During the initial two years of Covid, your Men’s Club Board ensured the continued scheduling of events, overcoming the inability to meet in person. Each month we presented Zoom sessions covering sports personalities, trivia, comedians, music and U.S. historians. When restrictions were lifted we resumed our in-person meetings and arranged outings for golf, a minor league baseball game, Monmouth and Freehold horse racing. We held our spring brunch, Octoberfeast and Holiday Parties …………………

We upheld our important charitable mission with food donations for those affected by the pandemic and donations to other charities through our fundraising and our golf outing. We updated our Bylaws in 2020 and 2022. ……..We have been a very busy and productive club both during and after the pandemic.

But none of this occurred without the dedicated effort of volunteers on your Men’s Club Executive Board and its various committees………. a willing group of volunteers to deliver these benefits to you, to Stonebridge and to the community at large. ……………………… serving on our board does not require a lot of effort. Working together as a team, we enjoy the benefit of sharing our own personal experiences for the benefit of the club. Volunteers also get the satisfaction of seeing not only our fellow members laughing at a comedian and having guest speakers hold their undivided attention, but also the faces of and gratitude from the recipients of our charitable contributions

This July 1st, 2023, we will be lacking two board officers ……………….. to serve the membership and the community, including myself who will now be serving my sixth year. This is far longer than our original Bylaws intended. As a result, your Men’s Club is now approaching a crossroads.

I have called for volunteers at numerous times in the past: ……………….. Without new volunteers at this critical juncture, the social, entertainment and charitable functions of the Men’s Club will be impaired. …………PLEASE volunteer, bring new ideas, and serve on our Board or a committee to help the Stonebridge Men’s Club excel in our active community.

  • Post Covid, on March 28, 2022, we returned to the clubhouse to pass bylaws changes.  In April Mark Feinsand, MLB.com reporter, guided us into the baseball season. A May breakfast and comedy show with Mike Marino entertained us. Clubhouse attendance rules had been eased, but the Men’s Club still recommended distancing and face masks at social events: see Event Safety May 2022
  • 2022 continued with a full menu of in-person events and entertainment that included: the June 27, annual meeting and lecture on the humor and complexities of Robin Williams; trivia host, Roy Cohen in July; the August trip to a Yankee/Met farm team game; the August restoration of our annual golf tournament  Also in August , detective Richie Roberts related the tale of a drug bust as depicted in the movie, American Gangster; the September visit to Freehold Raceway for lunch and gaming;  restarting our annual ‘Octoberfeast’ celebration highlighting George Carlin; political cartooning from syndicated cartoonist Ted Rall in November; ending 2022 in December with the annual holiday party featuring Bobby Darin highlights.
  • 2023 programs, on January 22, started with professional football player, Jerremy Zuttah,  whose mother lives in Stonebridge.  We learned a lot about the rigors and rewards of a star lineman.  On February 27, we followed that athletic prowess with the history of RCA labs, a pioneer in consumer electronics related by Dr MaGoun.  At that time, electronics was a USA industry. Remember the Dodgers at Ebbets Field, memories recalled by John Zinn on March 27.  April 22 was our delicious, laugh-out-loud breakfast, when Abe Volensky bought back the comedians and TV comedy shows of 1970 through 1990.  Don’t take honest Abe for granted as his, greatness empathy and humor was related by Glenn LeBoeuf on May 22.  June 26 saw hypnotist David Lawrence place several volunteers in his power to everyone’s joy.  Once again, our favorite trivia host, Roy Cohen stretched our intellect on July 24. On August 8, our annual golf tournament, with 80 players, raised thousands for local charities.  August 10 saw the clubs annual trip to a Yankee/Met farm team game in Bridgewater.  Another annual tradition led to 50+ members visiting Freehold Raceway for lunch and gaming on September 8.  On September 18, correspondent Ted Rall recalled his trips to the Afghanistan war theater.   The October 23 ‘Octoberfeast’ BYOB celebration was accompanied by an evening of Billy Crystal’s uproarious humor.
