President’s Letter — November 2020

Nov 2020  Dear Men’s Club Members

As 2020 is almost over, we can try to put this challenging year behind
us while continuing our diligence related to Covid-19 safety. We also
share the hope and desire for a brighter 2021 including successful
vaccines, the reopening of our clubhouse and resuming activities there
with our fellow residents.

Officer Positions & Membership

As we progress through our Men’s Club year, it is time to start
preparing for Executive Board member transition and elections for new
officers effective 7/1/21. The revised by-laws approved this past May
allowed for a one-year extension for both the President’s and the
Treasurer’s position. However, as the end of these terms approach, as
well as those of other Board members, it becomes incumbent upon me to
request member support in applying for open positions on the
Board. This request is made in order to continue the planning of
member events, whether via Zoom or in the clubhouse, such as
comedians, sports talks and historical speakers, as well as
community fundraising endeavors, including Stonebridge benefits,
children’s medical organizations, veterans, food pantries and
scholarships as I have detailed in previous updates. Member events and
community fundraising efforts require planning and the thoughtful
consideration and involvement of those participants who volunteer
their services on the Board for the benefit of all members. Without
enough members willing to donate their time in these positions, the
Men’s Club may not survive. For those wishing to learn more about
becoming a member of the Board, contact Don Marino,
President at smc08831.president @gmail.com.

Activities

Despite the pandemic, the Men’s Club Board continues to meet regularly
and presents monthly entertainment via Zoom to the community. Our
November23rd event with historian Vinnie Bruno focused on the rise of
the British Pop and Rock invasion of the 60s and featured insights as
well as music from the Dave Clark Five, The Animals, The Kinks, The
Rolling Stones, The Who and The Bee Gees. There were over 95 attendees
to this event. Those who attended were treated to a factual and
enthusiastic, musical presentation. Our December 21st event will
feature comedy enthusiast Abe Vorensky’s presentation on TV Comedy in
the 50s and 60s with highlights from I Love Lucy, the Honeymooners,
the Jack Benny program and many others. Our January meeting, which in
the past presented videos on previous Super Bowls, will this year
feature trivia man Roy Cohen testing our knowledge of football trivia.

Thanks again to the many members who have and will attend our
events. Special thanks to Ira Cutler, our VP of Activities, for
coordinating these events, as well as advertising by Trustee Fred
Block and the technical production skills of Secretary, Mike
Silverstein and Trustee, Marty McGowan. We continue to look for
speakers and entertainment to present to our members. If anyone would
like to suggest an interesting speaker or entertainment for the club,
please contact Ira Cutler at smc08831.activities@gmail.com. The Men’s Club Board hopes you
continue to enjoy our events. Keep an eye out for future emails
publicizing presentations in the coming year.

In Closing

I hope you all enjoyed a safe and Happy Thanksgiving. As always,
thanks to the entire membership for their support of the Men’s
Club. Be well, stay safe and I look forward to seeing all of you at
our meetings whether on Zoom or in the clubhouse in the coming year.
